We highly recommend exploring Hawaii National Park, a natural marvel unlike any other.

For art enthusiasts, the Volcano Art Center and boutique studios with art glass offer stunning works by local Hawaiian artists located in the park.

Don't miss the vibrant Akatsuka Orchid Gardens, a true feast for the senses.

Experience the community spirit at the Volcano Village Farmers Market, a weekly "social event" where locals gather to swap news, enjoy live music, and find unique souvenirs. It operates twice a week: on Sundays from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The Sunday market is the largest and most popular.  If you're staying for the weekend, it's the perfect spot to grab lunch for your adventure in Volcano, Hawaii's National Park.

Rainbow Falls (Waiānuenue) is an easily accessible 80-foot waterfall in Hilo, Hawaii, located within Wailuku River State Park. Famous for the vibrant rainbows that appear in its mist on sunny mornings, it features lush tropical foliage and holds deep cultural.

And for a broader market experience, the Hilo Farmers Market offers one of the best markets in all of Hawai'i. Local Hawaiian market is bustling on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7am-3PM.  You will find:

Kilauea Lodge and Restaurant is a beloved spot known for its charming ambiance and delicious cuisine. For stunning views and a relaxed atmosphere, The Rim Resturant and Uncle George's Lounge at the Volcano House Hotel come highly recommended.  During an eruption you may be able to see the lava right from your dining room table.  For a more casual bite, the Tuk Tuk food truck is a local favorite that keeps guests coming back for more.  A local cafe called the Lava Rock Cafe is a great place to experience some great Hawaiian style dishes.

In late July, the two-day Volcano Festival transforms Volcano Village into a lively celebration of art, music, and food, featuring nearly 70 local vendors, food trucks, and live music. The Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park Hawaiian Cultural Festival, also typically in July, is a free and popular event celebrating traditional Hawaiian culture with hula performances, chants, and hands-on workshops.

Each spring, following Easter, Hilo hosts the prestigious Merrie Monarch Festival, the world's most renowned hula competition. While the main events are in Hilo, the Volcano community often hosts satellite events, workshops, and cultural demonstrations in conjunction with the festival. For holiday shoppers, the Kamahalo Holiday Craft Fair, held the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving at the Cooper Center, features numerous local artisans and festive finds.
